Yoga For fighters?

I first became familiar with Yoga for fighters in 1997 in a Rickson Gracie seminar in Salt Lake City. Master Rickson Gracie said all students should use yoga in their training to elevate the level of their Jiu-Jitsu. I have always wanted to learn the proper Yoga style to assist our students at Hidden Valley MMA  Academy. There is an old Japanese proverb that says when the student is ready the master will come. True to this proverb we are so excited to have Jennifer Wilson on staff. She is one of the nations foremost expert in High Level, high Impact Yoga for Athelets who want to take their performance to the next level. We invite all of you to come and see for yourself how Jennifer can take you to levels of performance you never thought attainable. Rickson and Yoga

Judo or Jiu-Jitsu

I have always contemplated the real differences between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kodokan Judo. We know they are very similar yet so different  just like many things are. I had never been able answer this question until one of the best seminars I ever attended with Master Sylvio Behring and Grand master Alvaro Barreto.  Master Sylvio answered my question by saying ” There are 3 things that make Jiu-Jitsu different from Judo”

1. Rules of the sports.

2. Use of the guard.

3. Grand Master Helio Gracie.

I am grateful for the wisdom and linage I follow through my Masters Alvaro Barreto, Joao Barreto and Sylvio Behring.

Women’s Empowerment Seminar

Hidden Valley Mixed Martial Arts will be sponsoring a free woman “RAPE ESCAPE” seminar April 6th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Self Defense Seminar:

We will discuss and cover techniques for rape defense, defense against strangulation and abduction. We will work from different scenarios and situations that could arise during an attack. The techniques are easy to do and easy to remember. The most important thing from a Self Defense course is not the information you learn, but being able to remember what you learn if you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in such a situation. Women and young ladies from the age of 12 and up can participate in this seminar. It is designed for women of any age, fitness level, size and strength can do it. The program starts with the worse case scenario and then works it way into avoidance and evading. The seminar is scenario based with live (optional) training on an attacker (who will be well padded) which will give you an opportunity to practice what you learn. This is as close to the real thing in a safe environment you can practice and train in.
